Summer Fitness Series at Symphony Park

Free, age-strong fitness classes start next week at Symphony Park, located at 39 Edgerly Road in the Fenway.
Join your neighbors for these classes, sponsored by the Boston Parks and Recreation Department, Boston Public Health Commission, Blue Cross & Blue Shield, with support from the Mission Hill Fenway Neighborhood Trust. All classes take place in the park at 10:00 a.m.; in event of rain, classes will be held at 100 Norway Street:
Chair Yoga: Tuesdays, June 4 – September 24
Tai Chi: Thursdays, June 6 – July 25th

Red Sox Neighborhood Meeting, Tuesday, June 4th

Apologies for this late notice. Please see the following announcement from the Boston Red Sox regarding their community meeting on Tuesday, June 4th:
Red Sox Neighborhood Meeting – Tuesday, June 4
We would like to invite you to a Neighborhood Meeting at Fenway Park on Tuesday, June 4 at the Champions Club.  Please enter the Champions Club via the door located on Ipswich Street near Gate B. We will have security located outside checking in attendees.

As with our previous meetings over the years, we will provide updates on our events and operations, and offer you the chance to ask questions and provide any feedback and suggestions that you have. Doors will open at 6:00 p.m, with the meeting running from 6:30 p.m – 7:30 p.m.

The meeting is open to all, and food and beverages will be served.  If you plan to attend, please RSVP to Claire at cdurant@redsox.com.

DCR Roadwork – Fenway, Boylston Street and Park Drive

DCR Traffic Advisory: Fenway, Boylston Street, and Park Drive
WHAT:          Starting Saturday, June 1, 2019, and continuing through Thursday, June 20, 2019, the Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) will close Fenway from Boylston Street to Forsyth Way and from Brookline Avenue to Louis Prang Street, Park Drive from Brookline Avenue to Kilmarnock Street, and Boylston Street from Ipswich Street West to Ipswich Street East in the City of Boston from 7:00PM to 5:00AM to accommodate milling, paving, roadway improvement work, and the placement of temporary lane markings. On street parking will be prohibited during work hours. Traffic patterns will be clearly marked, and a police detail will be on site.
                       Additionally, in July 2019, the agency will conduct permanent lane marking work, which will include new crosswalks and bicycle lanes along Fenway from Brookline Avenue to Louis Prang Street and Park Drive from Brookline Avenue to Kilmarnock Street.
WHERE:       Fenway from Boylston Street to Forsythe Way and from Brookline Avenue to Louis Prang Street, Park Drive from Brookline Avenue to Kilmarnock Street, and Boylston Street from Ipswich Street West to Ipswich Street East in the City of Boston

Fenway Neighborhood Night tickets, Flower Share, and more!

Dear Members and Friends:
1. FCA/Northeastern Annual Flower Share, Saturday, May 18th, 9:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m., St. Ann’s Church 
Since 1975, Northeastern University has partnered with Fenway Civic to provide free plants and flowers to members each spring.
Saturday’s flower share will be held at the St. Ann’s Church/Fenway Center parking lot located at 77 St. Stephen Street (corner of Gainsborough Street). We look forward to seeing you there!
 
2. Neighborhood Improvement Committee Meeting, Monday, May 20th, 6:00 p.m., 100 Norway Street
The Neighborhood Improvement Committee (NIC) is facilitated by Berklee College of Music and Fenway residents, and works to improve the neighborhood, focused on areas of shared concern including safety and the public realm. Please join the NIC for this public meeting and bring your ideas!
 
3. District 8 Community Conversation, Tuesday, May 21st, 6:00 p.m., 160 Massachusetts Avenue
A moderated forum with candidates for District 8 City Council will take place May 21st, moderated by Margaret McKenna, President Emerita, Lesley University. Come hear from candidates and bring your questions.

With over 80 acts and counting, Fenway Porchfest is still accepting applications from musicians through May 27th.

The Commonwealth Seminar is a program that firmly believes government should be open to all, hosting trainings multiple times per year on everything you need to know to get your issues heard. 5. Mayor’s Coffee Hour, May 14, 9:30 a.m.-10:30 a.m. Symphony Park, 39 Edgerly Road
Join neighbors and friends to meet Mayor Walsh and City of Boston staff – Mayor Walsh looks forward to hearing how the City of Boston can improve upon local parks, public areas, and City services. There will be a suggestion box set up at each site. Free coffee and breakfast treats will be provided by Dunkin’, as well as fresh fruit from Star Market. Each family will receive a flowering plant grown in the City’s greenhouses as a gift from Mayor Walsh. Also, there will be a raffle with prizes from Dunkin’. Important Meeting: DORMITORY PROPOSAL

Dear members and friends,
SCAPE, the proposed developer of the multi-building complex at 1252 – 1270 Boylston St. intends to build a 15-story, 533-unit dormitory and other amenities. A public meeting about the proposal will be held on Monday, April 22 at 6:00 PM at Simmons University’s main building, located at 300 The Fenway, Room C 101.
On Wednesday, April 24, the Project’s IAG member meeting, also open to the public, will convene, same time and place as above.
Article 66 of the Fenway neighborhood zoning legislation forbids the creation of student dormitories on Boylston Street. Our FCA board unanimously supports these zoning standards developed by a multi-year consensus of residents, businesses, institutions, and city officials. The “no dormitory” provision was purposely inserted into our Fenway zoning to limit institutional expansion and preserve neighborhood quality of life. Our board strenuously objects to any stripping of that provision by the City and SCAPE. We encourage residents to read this proposal and participate in the public process for this project.

1. Muddy River Symposium, 4:30 – 7:30 p.m. 
We would like to let you know about this year’s annual Muddy River Symposium, sponsored by the Muddy River Maintenance and Management Oversight Committee (MMOC) and the Colleges of the Fenway.

DCR resumes street sweeping: The Department of Conservation & Recreation’s annual program of monthly street-sweeping along selected roadways in the Boston area to clean those roadways and improve the quality of storm water runoff begins Monday, April 1 and will continue through Friday, November 29. AM sweeping starts at 8 AM unless other arrangements are made. PM sweeping starts at 12 Noon
