Musically inspired sculpture at Symphony Park Unveiled!

A special ceremony to mark the sculpture’s completion was held at the park, located at Edgerly Road between Burbank and Norway streets in the East Fenway, on Thursday, August 18thand included remarks by Mayor Martin J. Walsh, Chief of Arts Julie Burros, and Fenway Alliance Executive Director Kelly Brilliant, and featured musical performances by classical musicians and Berklee College of Music. Sponsors for the unveiling included the Boston Symphony Orchestra and the Friends of Symphony Park.

FCA has worked since 2007 with City and State officials, Parks Department and volunteer caretakers to improve conditions at Symphony Park, which serves as the primary open space for the seniors at Morville House in the East Fenway.
- Fence restoration and refinishing, sandbox removal, concrete trip hazard mitigation, tree pruning and grass restoration
- New England Grassroots Environment Fund grant for $3,000.00 to restore perimeter plantings, matched by the Friends and added to by Morville House’s work to replace benches and handicapped-accessible tables
- Project acceptance from Community Outreach Group for Landscape Design (COGdesign) to connect the community with landscape architects to commence studies on park use and design and lead a community process for park revitalization
- 3 public meetings to invite users to help create a vision for a new park, resulting in a conceptual design for an improved Symphony Park

2017 onwards
- Fenway Civic continues to actively program and participate in work with the Friends of Symphony Park. In recent years, more than 30 weeks of free fitness, including Yoga, Tai Chi, and Line Dancing have occurred, and Berklee College of Music has partnered in annual Summer Sunset Concert series.
