The Week Ahead – Aug 29

Dear Members and Friends:

This week, Restoration of a local landmark begins, PREPARE TO VOTE SEPT 6 IN THE STATE PRIMARY!, pubic hearings on Longwood Place and Cannabis Zoning, and lots of MOVING  IN… Students/parking restrictions, Orange Line shutdown, #55 bus fall schedule, and a NEW space use at “The Station.” For all this and more, see below:


1. Conservation Work Starts AUG 29 at John Boyle O’Reilly monument

The City has supported Fenway Civic Association’s efforts to conserve and repair the statue through a $40,500 grant with work commencing this week. We’re grateful to the Boston Art Commission for their support for this important work.

3. Sunday, Aug. 28 – Sunday, Sept. 5 – Traffic Advisory for 2022 Student Move-in

4. Monday, Aug. 29 – 3:30 PM Virtual Job Fair BOSTON PUBLIC SCHOOLS IS HIRING!

775 overall positions and 250 educator vacancies to fill. Many available opportunities, as a teacher (permanent, long term or short term substitute), non-academic staffer, service staffer (lunch and bus monitors, paraprofessionals, bus drivers, etc) and more! Visit teachboston.org to apply TODAY or attend the Job Fair.

5. Monday, Aug. 29 – Public hearing on cannabis dispensary zoning – 6-7:30PM

http://www.bostonplans.org/news-calendar/calendar/2022/08/29/cannabis-amendment-meeting the City of Boston has recommended amending the Zoning Code to treat Cannabis Establishments in the same way that retail uses are treated, allowed in commercial and business sub-districts but remain Forbidden in residential sub-districts. Public comments will be accepted on the proposed amendments until Friday, September 9, 2022 and may be submitted via email to BPDArpz@Boston.gov. 6. Tuesday, Aug. 30 – Boston Civic Design Commission meeting on Longwood Place (305 Brookline Ave) – 6PM zoom meeting

TRANSPORT:  T SUSPENSIONS, #55 bus cuts remain for fall 2022 / FREE BLUE BIKE PASSES • MBTA SUSPENSIONS: full information at  https://www.mbta.com/alerts/subway • ORANGE LINE suspended through Sun, Sep 18. .  • #55 BUS: the fall schedule was released, with no changes planned for the #55. 8. Thursday, Sept. 1st 10-11am – Chair Yoga – Symphony Park 39 Edgerly Road Chair Yoga https://www.boston.gov/calendar/parks-summer-fitness-chair-yoga Participate in FREE fitness classes offered by a certified instructor. Offered in partnership between the Boston Parks and Recreation Department and the Boston Public Health Commission. The series is sponsored by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts.

9. Thursday, Sept. 1st: The Station former gas station at Park Dr & Boylston by Star Market. The Fenway’s newest outdoor gathering space, The Station, is opening on September 1! The Station is a creative space committed to the intersection of art and community, a place to celebrate our neighbors, and the new site of a rotating series of playful initiatives

11. Wednesday Sept. 14, 3:30 p.m. – Fenway Cares – Needs Volunteers (*Note, no distribution on 8/31 – next distribution is 9/14)

Need food? Know someone who does or want to volunteer for a good cause?
