Upcoming volunteer event and Yawkey Station name change

April 2, 2019 by fenwaycivic

Dear Members and Friends:

Thank you to everyone who attended last week’s public board meeting.
We have some upcoming announcements as follows:
1. Volunteer opportunity: Saturday, April 6 Pancakes and Partnerships, 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.
FCA is pleased to partner with Northeastern University for its spring Pancakes and Partnerships clean up event. This annual-clean up and celebration is designed to have residents volunteer alongside student volunteers to beautify the neighborhoods in and around the university. This year, Fenway Civic will be mulching and cleaning tree pits and roads in the Westland Avenue and Hemenway Street area. For more details and to sign up, please see the following:
The Breakfast Club is a clean-up program led by Northeastern students on 16 Sundays during the academic year, beautifying the streets of Mission Hill and Fenway neighborhoods. So far this year: 329 students have volunteered and collected 57 bags of trash!
Please join the effort in this end-of-season event! Sign-up here and we will contact you will more details about the day. The clean-up will be for two hours from 10:00 a.m. to noon, followed by a celebration at the Puddingstone Tavern with food and some honorary thank-you prizes for some well-deserving residents and students from noon to 1:30 p.m. Please join us after volunteering to eat, mingle, and get to know fellow neighbors!
We kindly request that you sign-up for this wonderful annual spring clean-up event so we may plan for food. Please contact me with any questions at 617-373-8480 or r.regan@northeastern.edu

2. Yawkey Station name change: Monday, April 8
Effective Monday, April 8, Yawkey Station on the Framingham/Worcester Commuter Rail Line will be renamed Lansdowne Station.
Following the name change of a municipal roadway in the vicinity of the station, the MBTA selected Lansdowne as the station’s new name.  The selection was made in accordance with the MBTA’s station naming policy, which includes guidance to prioritize local geography such as nearby streets, squares, or neighborhoods; the policy also emphasizes that the selection of names be based on simplicity, brevity, and distinctness.
In an effort to avoid potential confusion, the MBTA selected April 8 to ensure the name change takes effect prior to the first Red Sox home game of the season.  In the coming days, the MBTA and Keolis Commuter Services will be updating station and system signage, as well as schedule information on MBTA.com, the Commuter Rail app, and mTicket.  In addition, customers will be notified of the name change through onboard announcements, T Alerts, and on @MBTA and @MBTA_CR.
3. Member renewals:
We are working on our Annual Flower Share program and hope to finalize order forms in early April. If you have not sent in your renewal forms, please do so today!
