The Week Ahead

Dear Members and Friends:

Summer is quickly fading away, so enjoy the remaining outdoor events: Wednesday, join us at Ramler Park for our final summer concert! Thursday, last chair yoga class! Labor Day weekend, the unofficial end of Summer – as we switch towards fall, remember, elections are coming up soon! AUGUST 30 is the deadline to register for Boston’s Sept. 9 preliminary municipal elections! (See details below.) Get out the vote! Be part of the solution. We have an open city council seat in East Fenway.

NEWS ON BOWKER OVERPASS WORK

MassDOT will begin tree protection and pruning around the Bowker Overpass later this week. Tree removal is tentatively scheduled to begin August 24th  to last approx. one week: one night shift is required on the Pike, then work will be done during daytime hours on local streets for the removal of approximately 50 trees. 

Temporary traffic control workzones commence: Aug 24th on Ipswich Street; Aug 25th on the Charlesgate On Ramp. We will follow up with specific traffic advisories for each stage as we get closer. MassDOT is planning a virtual legislative briefing and public information meeting for the week of September 8th.

September is a great time to be out and about in New England, so we’re having an EAST FENWAY BLOCK PARTY on Thursday, September 4th from 4:30-7:30 pm at Symphony Community Park. Details coming soon!

THE WEEK AHEAD 

Wednesday, Aug 27, 6:30 pm – 8:30, Jazz at Ramler Park, 130 Peterborough Street

Kenji Kikuchi Jazz Quartet is dedicated to making you groove! Join your friends and neighbors for a mellow kickback in the park; bring a blanket and a picnic and enjoy the lush sounds of this awesome quartet, who we can’t get enough of! (see the flyer below, share the news, it’s our last concert of the season!)

Fenway Neighborhood Improvement Committee (NIC).

(NIC) is an all volunteer group of Fenway Neighborhood residents, organizations and businesses, facilitated by Berklee College of Music, with the goal of encouraging shared stewardship of the Fenway Neighborhood. We will send out a reminder in the coming weeks.

FENWAY CARES 

Fenway Cares Food Distribution at 2 locations:

West Fenway – Fenway Community Center, 1282 Boylston (enter-Jersey)

East Fenway – Symphony Community Park, 39 Edgerly Road

Volunteers are welcome to sign up for all dates and both locations! 

The MGH/MBG Community Care Health Clinic will now rotate locations between the West Fenway and East Fenway locations from 1-5 p.m. on Fenway Cares dates. Upcoming schedule: Fenway Community Center on 9/10 and Morville House, 100 Norway Street on 8/27. Offerings may include blood pressure monitoring, blood sugar testing, COVID-19 and flu vaccines.

Fenway Park Concerts Neighborhood Committee post-concert survey 

The online FPCNC SURVEY collects comments after each concert. The areas of concern are, traffic, noise levels, park impacts, trash management, etc. Reports are meant to inform the City and the Red Sox of any issues.
