The Week Ahead

Dear Members and Friends:

Good news & great summer activities – we really have a lot of cool stuff going on this summer – free concerts, Community heat break, fitness series, and a new street market event! While you’re out and about this summer, stay healthy with Fenway Cares, or pickup something fabulous at the Charlesgate Farmer’s Market – because we love seeing you at your best! 

Charlesgate Farmers Market

For music lovers: we’ve added another date to the Symphony Park Concert Series, at 39 Edgerly Road to make up for the rained out July 8 date! NEW DATE: Tuesday, August 5th. See new flyer attached!

For everyone! Music, arts-market and dancing!  

The Junkyard Market Jamboree is a free, community-focused event celebrating Boston’s creative spirit. The market features local vendors offering art, vintage clothing, handmade jewelry, and more, alongside a live funk and jazz jam session showcasing talented local musicians. A special line dancing session at 6 p.m. will be provided by the Boston Rhythm Riders, supported by a grant from Age Strong Boston. Weather permitting, the market is Saturday Aug 2nd (rain date August 3rd).

Thanks to Berklee College of Music, the Boston Streets Cabinet, Age Strong Boston, Boston Rhythm Riders, and Junkyard LLC for helping make this event possible. (flyer attached)

THE WEEK AHEAD 

Tuesday, July 22, 6 pm start, Symphony Park Concert Series, 39 Edgerly Road 

George W. Russell Jr. and the Reimagined Project “His most recent recording, Reimagined, is a powerful collection that reinterprets timeless spirituals and hymns through Russell’s musical lens, blending gospel, blues, and jazz in a way that will uplift your spirit and resonate deeply with your soul.”

Berklee presents this intimate and exciting free local series at Symphony Park. Enjoy top talent in your neighborhood. Sponsored in partnership by the Fenway Civic Association, and the Friends of Symphony Park. (see flyer for more detail)

Wednesday, July 23rd, 2-4 pm, Community Heat Break! At Edgerly Park – Join in for cool treats, fun activities, and tips and resources for staying cool and healthy this summer.

Monday, August 11, 6 – 8 pm, Tim Mayer & The International Jazz Quartet – free concert at Ramler Park, 130 Peterborough Street. A perennial favorite at Ramler, a wonderful jazz-filled musical event for all. More details to come, and rain date to be announced.  SAVE THE DATE! Below, some pics from last year’s concert.

Tuesday, August 12, noon start, former Trans National Travel building at 2 Charlesgate to be sold at foreclosure auction (on-site auction)

Read more on Universal Hub Paul E. Saperstein Co. scheduled a foreclosure auction.

Banker & Tradesman reports (read here) that an auctioneer has scheduled a foreclosure sale for the half-acre site on Charlesgate West where the British developer, Scape, had won approval  – and even a change in city ordinances – for a 28-story, 400-unit apartment tower with 68 affordable units. Here’s the project info as last shown on Boston’s City Planning site. We’ll be watching this issue closely!

Sundays, 10 am – 2pm, Charlesgate Farmers Market through October 12

DCR Charlesgate Park (Comm. Ave. between Charlesgate East & West 

Tuesdays: July 22. 29 & August 5, 6 pm start, Symphony Park Concert Series, 39 Edgerly Road. Berklee presents this intimate and exciting local series at Symphony Park. FENWAY CARES 

Fenway Cares Food Distribution at 2 locations:

West Fenway – Fenway Community Center, 1282 Boylston (enter-Jersey)

East Fenway – Symphony Community Park, 39 Edgerly Road

Volunteers are welcome to sign up for all dates and both locations! 

The MGH/MBG Community Care Health Clinic will now rotate locations between the West Fenway and East Fenway locations from 1-5 p.m. on Fenway Cares dates. Upcoming schedule: Fenway Community Center on 8/13 and Morville House, 100 Norway Street on 7/30. Offerings may include blood pressure monitoring, blood sugar testing, COVID-19 and flu vaccines.

Thursdays, 10 – 11 am, Chair Yoga with Michelle, through Aug 28, Symphony Park, 39 Edgerly Road. Join Boston Parks Summer Fitness Series for energizing chair yoga, taught by Michelle Coleman. This class prioritizes breathing, feeling, and dropping into the body and is designed for those who do not want to practice on the floor. RED SOX: Go Sox! Red Sox Schedule  /  Neighborhood 9s  / Concert Schedule 

Fenway Park Concerts Neighborhood Committee post-concert survey 

The concerts at Fenway Park impact the neighborhood. To track and document feedback, the online FPCNC SURVEY collects your comments after each concert. The areas of concern are, traffic, noise levels, park impacts, trash management, etc. Reports are meant to inform the City and the Red Sox of any issues. These surveys can be of great help if submitted per event.
