The Week Ahead

January 15, 2024 by fenwaycivic

Dear Members and Friends:

Martin Luther King, Jr. Day is the only national holiday officially dedicated as a national day of service. This year, the King Center theme is: “It starts with me: shifting the cultural climate through the study and practice of Kingian nonviolence.”

In his speech, Where Do We Go From Here: Chaos or Community,Dr. King speaks of Operation Breadbasket, a civic action which addressed issues of housing, food insecurity, equity, employment and personal dignity.Dr. King spoke to the issues we still struggle with today. King “spoke truth to power” calling out injustices and demanding change.

“Power at its best is love implementing the demands of justice. Justice at its best is love correcting everything that stands against love.”

On Monday, the Museum of Fine Arts and Citizens invite the community to commemorate the life, legacy and work of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. at a free open house for Massachusetts residents. Click here for details.

The BSO will celebrate with a special concert at 4 p.m. by the Boston Children’s Chorus—In the Name of Love: 21st Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Tribute Concert.
